clothing swap tonight!
![]()
Date: Monday, October 6th
Time: 9:00pm - 1:00am
Location: Botanica Bar (47 E Houston St, btw Mott and Mulberry)
Cost: Free
It seems as New Yorkers, your apartment is always a finely aligned puzzle. And whenever you add something new, everything has to be reorganized for your new treasures. Well, sometimes things get left out of the adjustment and - if your like me - you end up with that pile of treasures buried in the corner of the room or back of the closet. Thrift On is a great way to share those beautiful bits with perfect strangers. Bring the stuff you don’t want anymore, take someone elses stuff home. Clothing is okay too. DJ Shakey and Man “S” spin 2nd hand records while you rummage and sip drinks. Sorry, 21+
Thanks to freenyc for the info.

alternatives to blood (diamonds)
with so many couples getting taking the plunge these days, it’s surprising how competitive engagement rings have become. the rings just keep getting bigger and bigger, oftentimes to the point of fugliness, and there doesn’t seem to be an end in sight. i assumed that kanye’s song and leo’s movie did more than entertain, but when i sheepishly asked my newly engaged/betrothed girlfriends whether or not their finger decor was conflict-free, the answer was a resounding ”i’m not really sure…”
disturbing.
not that i’ve been thinking about it or anything, but here are a few alternatives that could sweep your special humane lady off her feet:

the usb engagement ring. okay…okay, the feedback isn’t so good on this one. and i don’t really understand what benefit the female wearer gets anyway. are those two man-hands, by the way?

check these out. the superior craftsmanship of Brooklyn-based (by way of Minneapolis) husband-and-wife designers, Joe Johnson and Jeanju Choi-Johnson, these periodic table of elements rings are gorgeous and a clever jab at the establishment. wonder if they make one for diamond…wait. i think i lost sight of the point for a moment, but you know what i mean.

the conceptual iRing is pretty sweet too. designed by victor soto, the band lets you play music and , i don’t know, do other stuff?

the contura profile ring is the perfect way to immortalize the image of the one you love. plus, if he/she has a big nose, that jabbing into the other fingers is a subtle reminder that they’re spoken for!

these fingerprint rings from andrew english feature the actual fingerprints of the bride and groom and are truly one of a kind.

congratulations arie!
arie of long island, ny is the proud new owner of a penguin silk camisole and kenneth cole blazer.
arie’s deeds that earned her the free stuff (in her own words):
List of my good deeds:
1. Yesterday, I had just bought some Red bean fish cakes from HMart for Mike and I, and I happened to bump into my uncle (who I haven’t seen since my family’s last gathering). I gave him two of the fish cakes for him and my aunt to enjoy. I would’ve given him all of them, but I didn’t have any more money to buy more for Mike and I. Hahha!!
2. I cook and clean for Michael every time he’s at my apt in Stony. lol
3. I love my family and friends. hahah! I appreciate them all very much.
4. I baked my friends at school some lemon with vanilla frosting cupcakes!! yummy
5. I recycled all my soda cans and bottles I had saved, at the Walbaums by my apt.
6. A lady dropped some food onto the floor and she didn’t pick it up, so I did.
Deeds that I will be doing:
1. Recycling as much as I can (bottles, papers, cans, etc)
2. Say nicer things to people, my friends and classmates.
3. I’m going to start giving my stuff away too! haha
